For example, in the circuit boards of mobile phones and computers, both gold and copper are used, which makes it easier to distinguish the advantages and disadvantages of circuit boards.
Purely from the outside, the outer layer of the circuit board mainly has three colors: gold, silver, light red. Classified according to price: gold is the most expensive, silver is the second, and light red is the cheapest. In fact, it is easy to judge whether the hardware manufacturers are cutting corners from the color. However, the lines inside the circuit board are mainly pure copper, that is, bare copper.
The advantages and disadvantages of bare copper board are obvious, advantages: low cost, smooth surface, good solderability (in the case of not being oxidized). Disadvantages: easily affected by acid and humidity, can not be stored for a long time, need to be used up within 2 hours after unpacking, because copper is easily oxidized when exposed to the air; can not be used for double-sided panels, because the second side after the first reflow soldering already oxidized. If there are test points, solder paste must be added to prevent oxidation, otherwise it will not be able to make good contact with the probe.
Pure copper is easily oxidized if exposed to air, and the outer layer must have the above protective layer. And some people think that the golden yellow is copper, that's a wrong idea, because that's the protective layer on top of the copper. Therefore, a large area of gold plating is required on the circuit board, which is the immersion gold process that I have shown you before.
The second is the gold-plated board. As the name suggests, it is to coat the substrate with a layer of gold. Of course, it is real gold. Even if only a very thin layer is plated, it already accounts for nearly 10% of the cost of the circuit board. There are many merchants in Shenzhen who specialize in purchasing waste circuit boards. They wash out gold by certain means, which is a good income.
