What are the basic requirements for material properties when choosing a PCB substrate!
①Dielectric constant: Dk needs to be small and stable. Usually, the smaller the Dk, the faster the signal transmission speed, which is inversely proportional to the square root of the dielectric constant of the substrate. The larger the Dk, the easier it is to cause signal transmission delay.
②Dielectric loss: At the same time, the smaller the Dk, the better the signal transmission quality, and the smaller the dielectric loss, the smaller the signal loss.
③The thermal expansion coefficient of copper foil should be as consistent as possible, and the water absorption should be low, and other heat resistance, chemical resistance, impact strength, peel strength and other aspects must be well protected.
Generally speaking, high-frequency boards are defined above 1GHz. Most of the substrates used by high-frequency board manufacturers currently are fluorine-based dielectric substrates, such as Teflon, which are mostly used above 5GHz, and other FR4 substrates are used for 1GHz ~ Between 10GHz, epoxy resin, Teflon and PPO resin are mostly used as substrates for the production of high-frequency PCBs on the market. Among them, the production cost of epoxy resin is the most affordable, the production cost of Teflon is the most expensive, and the production cost of PPO resin is medium. In terms of dielectric constant, water absorption, and frequency characteristics, Teflon is the best choice. If the frequency of the product is really higher than 10GHz, only Teflon can satisfy it. Of course, not all pcb high-frequency boards must choose Teflon. Material, the specific situation of the high-frequency board manufacturer depends on the customer's product demand to decide.
With the rapid development of science and technology, more and more devices are designed for applications in the microwave frequency band (>1GHz) or even in the millimeter wave field (30GHz), which also means that the frequency is getting higher and higher, and the basic The demand for materials is also getting higher and higher. For example, the substrate material needs to have excellent electrical properties, good chemical stability, and the loss on the substrate with the increase of the power signal frequency is very small.
